Embracing Failure

“My mother told me that failure is not the opposite of success; it is a stepping stone to success.” ~ Arianna Huffington

“Success is the ability to go from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” ~ Winston Churchill

I know that failure is a natural part of achieving significant results. But it can be frustrating, annoying and sometimes outright maddening. Especially when I knew the answer only to find out over and over again that I was wrong. These quotes help me reframe the situation and keep moving. Some days I am more ‘successful’ than others. Would love to hear what you do to keep motivated, especially through the failure that experimenting to root cause can bring.

The first thought (quote actually) that popped into my head was from Apollo 13 and Ed Harris in the role of Gene Kranz, Flight Director when he said, “Failure is not an option.” Great line, fit the situation perfectly, awesome entertainment value and repeated endlessly. For those of us that operate in a less life threatening type of environment, failure is an option. In fact it’s a reality. When you can and do embrace the fact that failure is going to occur and that you can and should learn something from it. Life becomes a little less challenging, especially if it’s a ‘new’ failure each time. Thanks for sharing the quotes from Huffington & Churchill – good stuff!

Thanks for sharing Bryan! We love that scene from Apollo 13. Came across this video today and thought I’d add it to the collection.
